Helpin along with music for the soul........

On their new unplugged CD, Cover Art, The Phil and John Show deliver no less than 17 rock standards, showing why they routinely kill on the GTA club circuit.
"These are songs people have requested over the years. We didn't pick them, really," said lead guitarist and vocalist John Rogers, prior to their weekly Monday night gig at Roc 'N' Doc's. "The only thing we were concerned with was picking songs that actually show off our abilities ... not that we're show-offs."

Rogers and lead singer and guitarist Phil Naro have been honing such songs through regular performances on Q107's Derringer In The Morning radio show, and the Classic Album Series at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre.
Their versions of Elton John's Tiny Dancer and Your Move by Yes are letter perfect. But, it's Naro's superior vocals and Rogers' intricate guitar lines on a classic like Deep Purple's Smoke On The Water that really grab the listener.
It speaks to Naro's talent that he can make AOR ballads like Foreigner's Waiting For A Girl Like You and Alice Cooper's Only Women Bleed ring true.
But, don't take my word for it. The Rochester native, who will be inducted into the Buffalo Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month, provides background vocals on the upcoming CD by CanRock icon Kim Mitchell, and also sings the theme to the YTV children's show, 6 Teen.
Meanwhile, Rogers' old band, Brighton Rock, recently had a second album reach gold status.
Naro says fans have been asking them to do a covers CD for years. And who knows how high this will fly?
Because, he's right when he says that these are "pretty radio-friendly tunes."
They hit the stage at 10 p.m. Roc 'N' Doc's is located at 105 Lakeshore Rd. E. in Port Credit. The CD is available at the show, or via www.thephilandjohnshow.com.
